Monteriggioni di Torri si Corona – the Medieval Festival< Back to list On the second and third weekends of July, the town of Monteriggioni (Siena) is transformed. Famous for its architecture that has remained intact through the centuries, the town celebrates its origin with a medieval festival whose name comes from a line from Dante’s Inferno “Montereggion di torri si corona” (“Of turrets, Monteriggioni crowns his walls”). In 2012, it will be held on 6, 7 and 8 July and 13, 14 and 15 July. The theme of the festival changes each year, indeed it is different from the first weekend to the next. For the 2012 program, the theme on 6, 7 and 8 July is "Pained City"; from 17.00, the town opens its doors to the customers, who can exchange their money at the entrance tollhouse and then visit inns, artisans’ markets and the military camp, all the while being enchanted by street performers. On 13, 14 and 15 July, the theme is "Another Look at the Stars”; stilt-walkers and falcons will fill the town, together with inns and markets.
